Fatherhood
We hear it quite a bit in this church. Father are to provide, preside, and protect. In the Proclamation to the World: The Family, it makes it clear that although mothers are the primary nurturers, parenthood is a mutual responsibility between mothers and fathers.
Preside. This means to have spiritual leadership for the family. Men are to preside in love and righteousness. Teach, direct, and love. Give blessings to your children. Counsel them, uplift them, and be an influence for their good.
Research on children has shown just how important fathers are for their children. Preschool children whose fathers are involved and interact positively with them display greater cognitive ability, more individual control, and more empathy than other children.
Fathers prepare their children for the world that they will soon have to navigate.
It was so important to me to pick a husband that would be a really great dad. I saw way too many of my friends have "daddy issues" due to their uninvolved fathers. I really saw how that impacted them, and still impacts them. My husband is so wonderful. He is so loving and involved with our children. He never complains about spending time with them, he finds excuses to spend even more time with them. He loves taking care of them while he provides for us financially.
